It is easier than you think to miss some items off your checklist so this post will help you to avoid that.
here are the Baby essentials for all new Parents:
What you need For your Baby’s Sleep
- Bassinet or Moses Basket for during the day
- A baby cot / crib for during the night
- Fitted bed sheets for your baby’s cot / crib
- 2x baby sleeping bags if you choose to use them
- Waterproof mattress covers
- Baby monitor
- Cellular blankets
- Night light
What you need For Baby Hygiene & Baby Care
- Baby wash gel
- Fragrance free shampoo
- Baby bath
- Fragrance free moisturiser
- Bath toys
- Bath toy storage
- Bath tap guard
- Baby towels for bath time
- Newborn nappies / diapers
- Fragrance free baby wipes
- Nappy / diaper bin
- Nappy / diaper bags
- Washable & reusable changing mat / changing station. I recommend these bamboo quilted absorbent changing mats which come in a set of 3.
- Cotton balls to clean newborn
- Baby nail scissors
- Baby soft bristle hair brush & comb
- Barrier cream (or petroleum jelly) to prevent nappy / diaper rash
- Non-bio washing detergent (better for sensitive skin than bio)
- Baby thermometer
- Colic drops. As mentioned on Healthline, up to 40% of babies experience colic, so you may want to be prepared just in case.
- Dummies / pacifiers if you choose to use them
- Muslin cloths
What you need For Feeding your Baby
- Baby bottles
- Baby bottle cleaning brush
- Bibs
- Breast pump (if you are giving your baby breast milk)
- Formula milk (make sure it’s in date)
- Cold water or steam steriliser
- Sterilising fluid or tablets (for the cold water steriliser)
- A feeding pillow
What you need For Travelling With A Baby
- Car seat
- Pram / stroller
- Rain cover for the pram / stroller
- Sun shade for the car window
- Baby bag
- Baby carrier or sling
- Travel cot / travel crib (for your baby to sleep in overnight)
What you need To Entertain your Baby
- Bouncer or baby swing
- Play gym / activity mat
- Baby toys (including teething toys)
Clothing Needed For A Newborn
- 6x baby sleep suits for the Winter or 6x rompers for Summer
- 6x baby bodysuits (long sleeve for Winter or short sleeve for Summer)
- 6x pairs of socks
- 6x pairs of baby mittens
- 2x hats
- 2x baby snowsuits (for Winter)
- 2x cardigans
